Recently there has been a lot of buzz about eating on trains and buses. Yes it’s true we should not eat on buses, trains or such. Yet people still do. It has led to SMRT staff being forced to step in and give out fines to curb the problem. It’s not that the staffs are happy to do this task. But if they don’t people will simply keep pushing the limits. But that does not mean you take photos of people who eat and get away with it.
If you visit the STOMP website, you would find many pictures of people eating or of people hogging the priority seats not meant for them. Yes, those people are in the wrong. But so are the people who take theses pictures. Do they ask before they click? Do they take the pictures discretely, which is worse?
It takes a lot to approach strangers and ask them not to step out of line (I don’t mean it directly). Many people, I included, cannot do it. IF you cannot do it, then its no use being online heroes. If you want to make a change, start with yourself. If you want to make a change, do it right then, don’t air the dirty laundry online for don’t know what purpose. Are you trying to raise awareness? Are you trying to zoom in on the culprit? Or are you hoping his family and friends read it and therefore he feels embarrassed? And if you still insist on doing so, how about when you upload that picture next time, you upload yours too, so that people can know who these “online heroes” really are.
